Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
