Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important official stated the incident left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
